Looking back as I get ready for 2016

Created this card using citra solv papers and only when finished did I realize used the same background as last year.....guess it continues to speak to me.
Have been working on refocus on what will be created in the coming year.  Plan on uploading art to Red Bubble so it will be easier to communicate with customers and deliver the art in varied formats.  Also will participate in a local show in April.
What will be available there will be mixed media, photo samples, and new play toy - mini gardens.  Thanks to my sister, have the directions but tended to wander until now.  It is proving to be an obsession creating the little details that finish the scene.
I am taking this time to wish you well for the new year...and as the card says.....little miracles as well.

Mail art and Artist Trading Cards....

... Joined an online group:  Mail Me Some Art - a place to meet other folks interested in swapping mail art or ATC's.  Participated in one swap of ATC that the material had to include the paper from security envelopes.  If you have not looked.....there is such a diversity of colors and patterns.  Primarily black or gray, but easy to modify ....only limitation is imagination and size that cannot exceed 2-/12 x 3-1/2 {same as a playing card} Submitted to person hosting the swap and awaiting the cards I will receive in exchange.

November has arrived....

.... with rain, and rain, and even more rain.  This is my third November in North Carolina and now I can say it is "normal".  Doesn't mean I like it ~ ~ but not as disappointing when plans are changed due to conditions outside.  Not that I am home bound,  but does make time for creations.
Thanks to a comment made on FB about my Witches' Hat Box...created Santa Hat Box.  It is a smaller size so able to allow itself to create itself in just a few days.  AND yes it is for sale -- local delivery or shipping is available.  Complete with hat, maps, and gift tags {approved by Elf #3}.

Also have cards available  - can accept paypal and mail standard mail for a reasonable cost to you.  more designs will be posted when completed.

Back again....

.... a weekend of minimal wandering and no photography.  That is one way to tell I am a bit off kilter.  The month so far has been difficult and unfocused.  I have given a lot of thought to the whys of being here - - both location and in the universe.
Sadly, my sister passed away two weeks ago.  She was quite a character that I wish I had known better.  Due to age difference - 21 years {yes, you read that number correctly} we were never in the same place at the same time.  When I moved away from Connecticut, she and her family moved back.  Yes, we visited over the years but it takes more than occasional visits to build a connection. I do believe we had quite a bit in common beyond having the same parents, but neither one of us really tried to bridge the gap of distance or years.
This week also marks two years in my home here in North Carolina.  I look around the rooms and know it is "home" - - I've marked my territory well.  It is comfortable and when I open the door, it looks and feels like home.....but....yes, there is a but.
I participated in a garage sale and finally let go of quite a few decorative items that I just couldn't incorporate or find the place for.  It seemed like the right decision, I'm sure it was....but...Just one more bit of letting go.  Always difficult...
Letting go of people you love...letting go of stuff...knowing nothing will replace them and there shouldn't be the need to but there is the feeling of a blank place.

October at the half way point...

And still drawn to making Halloween things...these were inspired by Pinterest find and thought Costume Contest Awards would be a hoot....

Did list on FB page -- but they have not found a home yet.

Additionally, Haunted frame and another Haunted House Shadowbox are also available...

Did wander to mountains to find fall color....photos to follow............

With September comes the desire to create Halloween goodies....

... yes, very early but always enjoy seeing the seasonal things come together.  This one is due to a cleaning binge - I knew the cabinet was somewhere...and it surfaced during a major overhaul of the storage closet / bins.  I dislike using bins and it had become a bad habit.  So all emptied and items organized in marked boxes on a shelf.  Easy access.

This little cabinet measures just 4" tall.  It has a skeleton hand holding candleabra, clock, ouija board, books and a bottle of paradise.  The legs are enhanced with salvaged jewelry and the gold on top is heat embossed gold paint.  Had such fun creating had to step away before it was overdone.

I have removed my listings from The ORIGINAL Made by Hands in the Triad FB page - - but all items are still available for sale {even this little cabinet}.  Just contact me directly via my blog.

This is how it happens...

... create something, allow the scraps of that project to accumulate on the work space, be determined to clean it up..........and then the scraps become mail art.

betwixt and between, neither the one nor the other

This is binder cover using packing
tape transfer

background is a security
envelope liner
This happens when I finish a few projects - some satisfactorily, others destined for the trash heap - the workspace is not conducive to serious, focused creations so ATC's to the rescue.  Made a few cards and uncovered a binder I had picked up along the way.  It is heavy cardboard front & back with six high quality plastic envelopes to hold atc's.  Combine all of this with the expanding collection of packing tape transfers.....and this is the result.

Hello August ....

... and finished an assembly that has been some time in the making.
Do not remember where I picked up the industrial light cover...but it finally found a home.  It is set on a candle base and the blue insert is a sales sample of pool finishes.  Of course included a few punched leaves from citra solv papers around the base.  The dragonfly wings are from a beautiful decorative item a friend gave me that broke ... couldn't let the wings just sit for long.

An experiment...with interesting results

Purchased a large stack of vintage Life magazines - thought might discover a little treasure for resale....but none of value for resale.  So next possible use - Citra Solv papers.
Mixed results - only a few pages used and 7 will be kept for future projects.

So.....attempted tape transfers.  WOW !!!  Attached tape, burnished with a spoon...soaked for less than five minutes and the picture / ink adhered to the tape and the paper literally lifted off the tape.  No rubbing, scraping, struggling to get the last pieces of paper off the design.  Next I plan on using a large adhesive sheet protector and see if it will transfer as well.
Then an assemblage with the transfer incorporated......

June is best described...

with show & tell.  From Lavender Festival...

to local lakes...

to Pow Wow...

and then backroads.

And creations...some materials that I've carried around forever waiting for them to become something...did...

An altered book...

that began over six months ago.  The thought behind it was the visualization of the "why I moved".  The decision was finalized by a toxic environment but began I believe with a trip to South Carolina over 10 years ago and a tour of the mountains of North Carolina with a friend.
The book uses one image created with citra solv a couple times because, though hard to see in the photos, shows a woman reaching out to an illusion of a girl in the distance.  That is the basis of the title "Illusions - A Fairy Tale".  As I began the monologue of the dream I searched for a definition of the word mortal.  And then I found the song "Wide awake and feeling mortal" by Kris Kristofferson.
He created the balance of the fairy tale.  The words that flow in his song so clearly defined the my being after the move.
The lyrics are:

Wide awake and feeling mortal
at this moment in the dream
That old man there in the mirror
and my shaky self-esteem

Here today and gone tomorrow
that is the way it's got to be
with an empty blue horizon
for as far as I can see

God almighty here I am
Am I where I ought to be
I've begun to soon descend
like the sun into the sea.

And I thank my lucky stars
from here to eternity
for the artist you are
and the man you made of me.

Pretty speeches still unspoken
perfect circles in the sand
rules and promises I've broken
That I still don't understand.

Sooner or later I'll be leaving
I'm a winner either way
for the laughter and loving
that I am living with today.

Due to space limitations, only including the cover photo and one page that has a vintage photo dated 1899.  I have uploaded photos of all pages {they are a tad rough...no editing...} and they can be viewed here: illusions - A Fairy Tale

I wish I could give credit to the person that wrote the quote on the back inside cover.  I clipped it from some article, somewhere, that defined my feelings:

"I have learned that if you must leave a place that you have lived in and loved and where all your yesteryears are buried deep, leave it any way except a slow way, leave it the fastest way you can.  Never turn back and never believe that an hour you remember is a better hour because it is dead."

Not yet summer according to the calendar...

...but the weather has been typical summer - - warm and humid.  Perfect for setting up limited garden space.  Yard art on a reduced scale.  This is a bisque doll head that I drilled hole in the top for the sweet potato vine...just a bubble off level.

The last few weeks have found me using scrap papers and printed security envelope liners to make mailing labels.  Once created, I scan & print for repeat use.  Some have been uploaded to Mail Art Labels that you are welcome to download and use {with proper credit given to Deja vu Designs USA of course}.

Time to start what is looks to be a most interesting week..................

Well, what do you know....

I did not fall off the edge of the earth - - but it got close.  Due to various challenges, stepped away from posting.  Gave myself time to put things back into perspective and accept that some people are not to be trusted.  Discovered sometimes giving someone a second chance is like giving them an extra bullet for their gun because they missed the first time.  Ok...there...done.

During the time that passed...SPRING arrived !!!  and I quit smoking {ok, occasionally use e-cig but see paragraph #1 for my excuse along with gaining weight - - vicious circle there }...

Also, repurposed scrap materials, including security envelope liners - - they do have some great patterns - - to create mail art labels.  The link here: Mail Art Labels.  You are welcome to save and use {most print 4x6 and make good package or envelope address labels}.  I just ask that you acknowledge the source of the art.

One other change of note - - The Beast -  thanks to the generosity of my sister, able to get funds together to adopt this critter.  A mini-poodle mix, estimated to be about 9 years old.

Time to get ready for exercise class {see paragraph #2}.  And warning....more postings on the way.

P.S.:  anyone in the market for a house & couple acres of land in Alvin, Texas ????  make you a deal you can't refuse !!!

Perfect day to stay indoors....

....as weather prediction is a high of 21 degrees and there is snow on the ground.  Granted nothing like New England, but the 2" received did shut the city down - no schools and lots of businesses closed.
So...I knew I had accumulated numerous nautically themed citra solv pages and as I gathered them in one spot, they appeared to flow along with a song:  Blue Rain performed by Marshall Styler.
Created using Picasa that has limited editing / transitions by slide so it is quite simple....

Wrapping up January...

used a cloth to add texture so
it appears to be on canvas
work station set up
this is one that has no digital adjustment
with four days of citra solv creations -  - 174 pages created and scanned.  And estimate another 40 not yet scanned.  It was a great opportunity to experiment and play.  Did learn I have been using way too much solvent.  The second day used a spray bottle ....and patience.  With light spray on each page and approximately an hour of wait time, the results were so much better.  Also ...on a few pages applied low tack artist tape on areas to prevent the melting of the ink.  Good {and some spooky} results.
Aroma did get a bit overwhelming...I'm sure neighbors thought I had finally got serious about cleaning my home...

used tape to protect
divers - can still see
the ship below them

creepy with eyes protected
