Merry Christmas...

... not my creation, but share the sentiment

Saturday, December 9, 2017

It is cold...and snowing...

... and the home front is warm & music is playing.  Only challenge being a small beasty that does not quite know how to make yellow snow.  Cleared snow from small area...problem solved.
Now back inside and letting perfect words blend into citra solv creations.

Hard to step away from desk and work on my cards...but obviously I enjoy "snarky"

Being Creative is NOT a hobby....

.. it is a way of life.  And I was part of a group of 85 artists that showed how colorful, eclectic and wonderful their lives are.
The Whimsical Women Show was fantastic.  The art exhibited was diverse, unique and the displays were wonderful.  I would estimate at least 800 people came to view the works and shop.....
and then the Mother Nature stepped up her game and blew it all away.  The day was sunny and beautiful but the wind came along in gusts up to 30 mph.  Not conducive to keeping display tents upright even with weights.  My poor neighbor had beautiful fabric art that flew away even though she had a beautiful tent complete with sides.  Had it not been for my dear friend, Carla Duncan, my tent would have been gone with the wind.
Despite conditions and the fact we shut it down by 2:30, many pieces of my art found a new home.  If you were not able to attend the show, but would like to purchase one of my creations, you are welcome to contact me.  Local delivery can be arranged or shipment can be scheduled.

Christmas Cheers !

I know...way too early.  BUT   in my wanderings came upon this cork wreath that was created on a straw wreath base and what better way to enhance than with wine doodads.  The little bottle is a Christmas tree decoration and the leaves and grape fine are metal stampings enhanced with alcohol ink.  I attached a small wire on back for display but will need a better hanging mechanism.
And yes...it will be available at the Whimsical Women Show  next weekend.

The last minute was just what I needed.

With the Whimsical Women Show just weeks away, I knew I had to finish up the stragglers.  If for no other reason than I needed my "work bench" to be transformed into my "show table".

The "Illustrated Mind" is complete !  Basis for this is:  Phrenology (from Greek φρήν (phrēn), meaning 'mind', and λόγος (logos), meaning 'knowledge') is a pseudomedicine primarily focused on measurements of the human skull, based on the concept that the brain is the organ of the mind, and that certain brain areas have localized, specific functions or modules.

But in my version, there is obvious personal observations on my mind.

Left side:  reason, analytic, logic, control, totally unknown, forgotten
Center:  wonder, more open than closed, things that should be remembered, faces I cannot put a name to, passion, private thoughts, worry
Right side: freedom, illusions, make believe, other stuff, bliss, music, irrelevant, peace

I have posted photos here in the past showing the transition from a Cosmetology Mannequin Head (complete with hair) to this creation. When adding a crackle paste, there did form long streams that I was concerned about but ultimately felt the "scars" added to my personal observation of self.

Repurpose old manufacturing plant tool bins

Acquired they-se wood tool bins that measure 15-1/2 x 6 x 4-1/2 and went to work.  Everything from bingo cards to mini cue balls (see the feet ?) to cancelled casino playing cards.  Oh, and buttons of course.  The red handles were picked up at an estate sale...probably 6 months ago.  As the tray was assembled, they just fit for the color and unique design.  The tray with buttons has a handle picked up for the trash (literally when neighbor moved and dumped junk on the ground next to the dumpster).

Do have more boxes available...but other projects need my attention right now..

Instead of boxes or boards...

.
. how about a mini chest of drawers.  Measures just 7-1/2" tall and 8" across on the bottom.  The first photo shows before - before paint, before blueline paper, before little wooden spool feet, before metal drawer pulls.

Took a while to finalize design...but once I knew what paper would be used, the rest came together (there are still hints of red paint from the decision process...that did not work other than to say NOPE not red)

Boards again...and a little tiny round....

...box.  The box is just 3-1/2" tall when measure including the vintage drawer pull placed on the top amid paper flowers.
The saying on the
back reads:  it's the little things that make life big.  This basic round wood container is painted with metallic acrylic paints and enhanced with alcohol inks, paper cut out leaves, metal gnome door and a small butterfly.  No room left for more...

The boards are 14" x 8" wide with knobs to hang your hat...your jewelry...or tote bags.  The one with the globe shown (from National Geographic map) has knobs with small map inside.

The Life is a series of a thousand miracles has the same flowers as

the little box attached behind the knobs.

No new boards today...

... the glue is drying on two and still working on layout on another.  Then on to next projects.
But in the break 'tween boards, worked on a few promo signs to include in display.  Just need to trim them up and mount on boards for advertisement.
Did come upon a vintage metal portable file storage box - covered with the finished magnets to set up for show in November.

Very close to finished...

... another board that is.  This one evolved into a design that was not what I expected.  The map is from an old National Geographic magazine {burned edges to appear to age papers} with lettering using scrabble tiles.  The knobs are drawer pulls picked up along the way.  And that is where the "close to finished" comes in.  Need to chop off length of posts on the knobs.  Any volunteers ???
The stars are tin colored with alcohol ink.

Love you to the Moon...

... and back.  Finished another board using the collection of vintage buttons I've accumulated.  This project used quite a few, yet still more than enough to finish more.
Background is luminescent paint to give a touch of glitter / gold highlight.  Letters were cut using my cricut.  It will be part of my creations that will be available for sale at the Whimsical Women Show in November.

They are done...all 51 of them .....

.. magnets that is.  Used old slide frames and then whatever happened to be close at hand to create a collection of magnets for the show in November.  I do believe it is time to move on to other items that are accumulating on the work bench.
Oh...and if you see a magnet (or two or three) that you would like to purchase, they are $5 each, 3/$12 plus shipping.  The green winged gnome has sold.

Quietly creating....

... and not posting.  But did finish this wooden shelf.  Measures 15-1/2" across, about 9" tall in center and 5" deep.  Each little section accommodates a 3" square box.  Completed using luminescent paints, liquid pearls, brass tacks and brass drawer knobs.  I think it is finished...but maybe not. There are hangers on back but considering adding feet to allow it to set on a flat surface.

I have applied and submitted payment for the Whimsical Women Fall Show - November 18, 2017 from 10 until 3.  It will be held at The Children's Home Farm, 1001 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC.  Will keep you posted when receive approval.....

Again....stepped away...

...and was doing everything but making art.
Found this little reminder on FB and had to share.....  and now back to workbench and see what comes together for the next creation.

Yes, they are for sale at $35 each. Framing in float frames can be

Repurpose of this item...

...was a long time in the works.  This is a wooden textile shuttle repurposed into a windchime - complete with various shades of turquoise glass beads, crystals {salvaged from a chandelier} and vintage keys.  The vintage keys and eye screws have been colored with alcohol ink.  And I could not have done it all alone - special thanks to David Bray at Shamrock Shredding for being the brains behind attaching the hanging hardware and Theresa Abel for wiring the beads and keys.
This ornament is available for sale $55.00 - delivery available in the Greensboro area or shipment can be arranged.

.. and color to a rainy Monday morning.  This photo was taken when wandering Jen's garden in Indianapolis.

Hope your day is sunny & bright.

A small garage sale find...

... begging to be altered.  This small wooden box was a find last weekend.  Liked the unique notch cut tab - perfect to add a knob made from a vintage button. Only 3" tall and that includes the
salvaged knobs from an old piece of furniture used as the feet.  It is 4" wide and 3" deep.  All these odds and ends just seemed to fit on it - citra solv papers, slide frame altered with alcohol ink, small metal piece colored with alcohol ink and a vintage button for a knob.
